Flemish Bouwmeester Scan

18004
From 2018 to 2021
The Bouwmeester Scan identifies the spatial and policy strengths and weaknesses of Flemish municipalities, with a focus on sustainability and efficient use of space. TML contributed by providing traffic analyses and optimisation proposals for a multimodal and sustainable mobility structure.

However familiar or valuable the Flemish (urban) landscapes may look, the pain points are equally familiar to us: scattered habitation in low densities, high land take, inefficient mobility, and the continuous occupation of open space. This spatial model is not only environmentally and climate unfriendly, it also has a heavy social cost. However, the transition to better and more sustainable use of space requires an understanding of the possible lines of action that can be worked on.

The Bouwmeester Scan therefore maps the municipality's spatial and policy strengths and weaknesses and provides a concrete agenda of projects and interventions. These include densification and core reinforcement, the strengthening and expansion of green-blue networks, an optimal mobility structure with priority for sustainable modes, ecologically valuable green areas, and a better interplay between open space and urbanisation. To this end, the municipality is analysed from various perspectives with a strong interaction between the work domains.

TML supported the team with traffic engineering analyses and optimisation proposals to achieve a multimodal, well-functioning, and sustainable mobility structure
