Traffic Safety
Transport & Mobility Leuven carries out several studies on traffic safety. For example, we assess what the impact on road safety would be of a zone 30 for the entire city centre, a circulation plan, a speed reduction from 70 km/h to 50 km/h, a conflict-free traffic light regime, or newly constructed cycle paths.
An important part of road safety research is the road safety impact assessment (RSI). This consists of a number of prescribed components, notably the definition of the problem, the current situation and a do-nothing scenario, the road safety objectives, an assessment of the road safety impact of the proposed alternatives, a comparison of the alternatives, and a presentation of the possible solutions and a reasoned choice.
