Macroscopic Traffic Models

A macroscopic traffic model calculates traffic flows for a country, region, or city. Whereas microscopic traffic models analyse the behaviour of each individual vehicle, macroscopic models are used to analyse traffic flows as a whole, e.g. to map the car density on road sections or their average speed.

These types of models are used in large infrastructure projects, for example to map the traffic situation in large cities or evaluate the success of a new regional bus line.
