TML Talk #22 Making inland navigation more sustainable
On Thursday 27 February 2025, we invited you to our 22nd TML Talk. This time, the focus lay on making inland navigation more sustainable.
De Vlaamse Waterweg nv manages the extensive network of waterways in Flanders, providing a sustainable and efficient mode of freight transport while contributing to economic growth.
TML analysed the economic and societal impact of their Strategic Plan 2030 and compared the results with the objectives of the Flemish Mobility Vision 2040, the Flemish Strategy for Sustainable Development, and the Flemish Climate Adaptation Plan. Our colleague Ruth Evers presented the findings of this study.
Additionally, we focused on the sustainability of inland navigation. Marjan Beelen, director of CITBO, provided insights into the Inland Navigation Green Deal, and outlined plans for the future. Finally, Edwin Verberght from the University of Antwerp shared his perspective on innovation and sustainability in inland navigation. His presentation covered topics such as smart shipping, automation, and digitalisation.
