Bodies and trailers: CO2 emissions
18036 / 19034
From 2020 to 2021
TML led the market analysis for the updates to the European Commission's emissions calculation tool VECTO, with a focus on the trailer and bodywork market and their impact on CO2 emissions. The analysis consisted of examining European market trends, identifying sector issues, and categorising trailers.
The European Commission wants to adapt its emissions calculation tool for heavy vehicles (VECTO) to also work with custom trailers and bodies, as these (due to streamline and mass) can affect the vehicle's CO2 emissions quite a bit.
TML led task package 1 within this study and prepared a market analysis of the trailer market. That market analysis paints a better picture of current and future trends in the market for trailers, semi-trailers, and bodies, specifically focusing on their constraints and impact on CO2 emissions.
This package was divided into three subtasks, each with a well-defined objective:
- Analysis of the European trailer and bodywork market based on trends in freight transport.
- Identification of specific problems and constraints of the sector.
- Identification of trailer and bodywork categories according to the market analysis and their relative impact on CO2 emissions.
The report of this study is available on the EC website and in the Downloads section on this webpage.
Follow-up study
Meanwhile, a follow-up study of this study has been carried out, focusing on the development of a suitable IT tool based on the insights of the first study. Within this study, TML mainly took care of the stakeholder consultation.
