Collaborative networks

TML conducted a needs analysis as part of research on collaborative networks, examining the demand for cooperation between logistics service providers in Flanders, with a focus on horizontal cooperation.

Although Flanders is an attractive location for logistics operations, only a limited number of Flemish logistics service providers can support full-service and intra-European logistics operations. By setting up collaborative networks or structural partnerships, service providers can offer a much broader service package and geographical coverage to their current and new clients.

In addition, a high-quality service package increases the attractiveness of Flanders as a logistics region. This first analysis looked at the demand side: to what extent is there a need among shipper-clients for cooperation between their logistics service providers? This is mainly about horizontal cooperation: a form of cooperation where parties with similar activities work together.

The research project about collaborative networks of the Flemish Institute for Logistics (VIL) has as its provisional endpoint a pilot project start-up (spring 2005).
