Reducing greenhouse gas emissions

TML analysed the implications of the 30% target for the European transport sector and translated it into specific greenhouse gas emission targets for 2020. The team quantified the effort required and examined the extent to which current policy measures contribute to achieving these targets.
Preventing climate change is one of the most important challenges for our and future generations. Several agreements, targets, and measures to reduce GHG emissions are on the political table, globally and at European level. The EU set an objective to reduce GHG emissions by 30% by 2020 (compared to 1990) as part of an international agreement, or at least 20% as a unilateral target.
In this report, we analysed what the 30% target would mean for the European transport sector. We translated this target into a clear GHG emission target level for the transport sector in 2020. We quantified the effort needed to reach this target and studied to what extent currently proposed policy measures help to achieve this target level.
