Using a microsimulation model, TML analysed the traffic flow effects of a new retail outlet at Carrefour Korbeek-Lo, comparing different scenarios with the current scenario to identify potential traffic problems.

The aim of this study was to look at the effects of a new commercial shop on the site where Carrefour Korbeek-Lo is also located. Several scenarios were considered in comparison with a predefined baseline scenario describing the current state of the site. The effects were mainly considered in terms of traffic handling, in particular traffic volumes and travel time losses.

Based on the results, it was possible to make an objective and quantitatively supported comparison between on the one hand the scenarios compared to the baseline scenario and between the various scenarios on the other. For this study, we used a microsimulation model, which specifically allowed mapping the detailed movements of vehicles.

On this basis, we were able to check whether the planned layout of the new retail outlet would pose a problem for traffic in and around the car park.
