TML is developing a tool commissioned by the City of Antwerp that can indicate more accurate waiting times for cyclists and pedestrians at traffic lights. In collaboration with Siemens, traffic light schemes are being analysed and parameterised so that waiting-time indications can function more intelligently based on up-to-date data.
At the request of the City of Antwerp, we are developing a tool that will provide a better indication of waiting times for cyclists and pedestrians at traffic lights. The dynamic light control system currently in use has difficulty predicting an accurate waiting time. It therefore assumes the waiting time in a worst-case scenario. During the countdown, updates occur, causing the waiting time counter to count down more slowly at the beginning than at the end. This tells us that the current system of waiting time indication does not match the effective waiting time.
To make this waiting-time indication more intelligent, TML, together with Siemens, is developing a tool that will read and parameterise the current traffic light schemes. Siemens will read in the parameters resulting from this tool and ensure their correct interpretation. The results will be used to make waiting-time indications function more intelligently.
TML is using its years of expertise in traffic light controls to develop this tool.
