TML conducted a feasibility study on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for mobility studies. The study analysed available technologies, the legislative framework, and application areas, with the aim of objectively assessing the usability of UAVs as a technical platform for recording devices in research.

TML, supported by the
Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship, launched a feasibility study on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in mobility studies. The study included the analysis of
  • the technology available for UAVs and usable recording devices,
  • the legislative framework, and
  • relevant application areas within basic and applied research.

The aim of the study was to provide an objective analysis of the usability of UAVs as a technical platform for recording devices. In recent years, many technologies have become available for researchers to collect data related to mobility issues. However, not all technologies are equally successful, cost-effective, or mature. This study provided an opportunity for TML to explore the use of UAVs for applied research and mobility studies.
