Transport of persons with reduced mobility

This project promoted awareness and policy around accessibility of transport services for persons with reduced mobility and produced a guide of best practices. TML provided the literature review, survey, and selection of the most effective measures to improve accessibility.

The main objective of this project was to
  • promote awareness around the accessibility of transport services for persons with reduced mobility,
  • increase the implementation of measures and policies that promote accessibility for persons with reduced mobility, and
  • strengthen the rights of this category of travellers before, during, and after their journey.

We achieved this in two ways:
  • We created a structured compilation of best practices that promote travel for persons with reduced mobility. In doing so, we considered all types and aspects of transport, including infrastructure, vehicles, technical solutions, processes, and personal assistance.
  • We drew up a guide for future development of policies, actions, measures, or strategies that increase accessibility for persons with reduced mobility.

We started with a literature review and a survey of transport providers, policymakers, and representative organisations. This led to a longlist of measures. Applying a number of selection criteria to this, we arrived at a shortlist of 20 to 25 measures, which constitute the best practices.

You can find the final report, the guide of best practices and the guide of policy recommendations for the future at Downloads.
