TML TALK #17 How to introduce electric trucks in the EU when battery development is uncertain?
One of Europe's ambitions is to reduce CO2 emissions from heavy-duty long-haul trucks by 90% by 2040. Several technologies are in the running but battery electric trucks are increasingly preferred as a solution. This requires very large battery capacity and charging infrastructure whose costs are still unclear and this is a major barrier. Equipping motorways with overhead lines could be an interesting no-regret solution here that allows working with a much smaller battery capacity. This solution does require European coordination.
Maria Börjesson, professor of Economics, area of Transport Systems, VTI and Linköping University, is our guest at our 17th TML Talk on Tuesday 5 December. Together with colleague Tim Breemersch, she sheds light on the challenge of making long-distance freight traffic carbon-free by 2040.
Colleague Sven Maerivoet introduces the context and speakers and moderates the Q&A session.
