nuMIDAS

20023
From 2021 to 2023
The nuMIDAS project, led by TML, developed tools, databases, and models to improve the integration of new mobility technologies. The toolkit and guidelines, validated in four EU pilot cities, support decision-makers in implementing disruptive mobility solutions.

The mobility ecosystem is seeing the emergence of new stakeholders and services: think connected and automated vehicles, MaaS, and shared mobility. As these new forms of mobility offerings appear in cities, so do new ways of generating, collecting, and storing data. Successfully integrating disruptive technologies and solutions with the designs of policy makers remains a challenge at present. nuMIDAS was a Horizon 2020 project, led by TML, with the aim of providing insight into what methodological tools, databases, and models are needed and how existing models should be adapted or supplemented with new data.

nuMIDAS, the New Mobility Data & Solutions Toolkit, bridged this (knowledge) gap by providing insight into which methodological tools, databases, and models are needed and how existing versions should be adapted or supplemented with new data. To this end, the project relied on insights gained from (market) research and stakeholders, as well as quantitative modelling. Wider applicability of the project's results across the EU was ensured as the research was validated within a selection of case studies in pilot cities, with different characteristics, giving more credibility to these results. Finally, through an iterative approach, nuMIDAS created a tangible and readily available toolkit for deployment elsewhere, including a set of transferability guidelines, thus contributing to the further adoption and exploitation of the project results.

The project built on a distributed selection of case studies in pilot cities to provide geographical coverage of the EU. The four pilot cities were Barcelona (Spain), Milan (Italy), Leuven (Belgium), and Thessaloniki (Greece).

TML was the overall project coordinator and was responsible for coordinating the work package with the case studies.
