Belgium needs to compile inventories of air emissions for the transport sector. TML developed a harmonised tool to calculate the fleet composition of road traffic in Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels and carried out an update to adapt the tool for COPERT5 and new data up to 2040.

To comply with its international obligations, Belgium has to draw up inventories of air emissions for the transport sector. Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels each make their own inventories to arrive at a consolidated national emissions inventory.
This approach caused inconsistencies between the different regions and, consequently, at national level. In 2014, TML delivered a new tool that calculates the fleet composition for road traffic in the three regions in a harmonised way.

During 2017 - 2018, we did an update of this fleet module. The main modifications concerned making the tool suitable for using COPERT5 instead of COPERT4. A correction was also made for old inactive vehicles and the availability of some new input data was taken into account. Finally, the future module was adapted to the new fleet module and extended to 2040.
