TML supported the European Environment Agency in identifying success stories that demonstrate how governments and organisations are reducing the negative impacts of transport on health and the environment. These examples illustrate benefits such as reduced congestion and increased liveability.

A key objective of the European Environment Agency (EEA) is to contribute to a better environment in Europe. Reducing the negative health and environmental impacts of the transport sector are important in this context.

To support EEA, TML, together with REC (Regional Environmental Centre) and UWE (University of the West of England), sought and described a number of transport success stories. These are good examples of ways in which governments and other organisations reduced the negative health and environmental impacts of the transport sector in concrete situations. The success stories cover a variety of transport modes and take place in different transport environments. The majority take place in an urban context, as more people enjoy the benefits of transport there and non-environmental benefits also come into play, such as reduced congestion and increased liveability.
