Impact assessment of policy measures on harmonised River Information Services
TML contributed to a study that examined the economic, social, and environmental impacts of possible policy measures for the new European Directive around River Information Services, in particular the scenario development and the methodology around calculating the environmental impact. The report's findings will help the European Commission draft a proposal for the directive.
The various impacts were quantified as much as possible and compared in a summary table. In addition, political feasibility, proportionality, etc. were considered. For the various options, the concrete impact on the inland navigation sector was considered. This included how sailing itself would be affected (throughput, administration, safety, etc.), but also the costs of developing a new RID system, for both the system operator and the user.
TML helped prepare the scenario development and the methodology around the calculation of the environmental impact.
Based on the report's recommendation, the European Commission is drafting a proposal for the new directive, which will then be submitted to the other EU legislative bodies for approval.
