The CO2 impact Brussels-Glasgow train versus plane.

A flight from Brussels to Glasgow emits 20 times more CO₂ per passenger than the same journey by train.
Our colleague Inge Mayeres gave a detailed explanation on Friday 5 November in the 19u Journaal on VRT.
For the train, there are no direct emissions, but there are in the production of electricity.
For the aeroplane, there are direct emissions from the combustion of paraffin during the flight and during take-off and landing.
In addition, the greenhouse gases emitted during the production of paraffin are also taken into account.
Flying is currently only taxed to a very limited extent, and therefore not in proportion to the CO₂ emissions.
More info? The calculation method is the same as the one explained in this recent EEA report.
