Hasselt has implemented the first smart, dynamic traffic lights (iVRIs) in Flanders on the renovated Slachthuiskaai. TML analysed and developed traffic light control for three intersections and linked them into a network control, which was evaluated via microsimulation.
The city of Hasselt implemented the very first iVRIs in Flanders on the renovated Slachthuiskaai: a smart, dynamic traffic light system that considers the current traffic situation.
TML was asked by Dynniq Belgium NV (now Swarco) to prepare the analysis and traffic light control system for three intersections on the Slachthuiskaai. In a first phase, smart, dynamic light schemes were drawn up for each intersection separately. In a second phase, these intersections were linked and a network arrangement was worked out in the traffic control application ImFlow.
To ensure the optimal operation of this network arrangement, we did an evaluation by means of a microsimulation.
