Impact assessment: weights and dimensions of heavy duty vehicles

22072
From 2022 to 2024

A revision of the existing European directive around weights and dimensions of heavy road vehicles is imminent. TML developed a calculation model that evaluates the effects of 15 policy measures on emissions, safety, and infrastructure, according to European Commission guidelines, with key contributions to environmental impact calculation and economic modelling.

A mathematical model consisting of several modules for emissions, safety and infrastructure was created for the period 2025 - 2050. The model works based on transport volumes and elasticities, with which the effects of the various policy measures were elaborated and quantified, in order to arrive at a complete social cost-benefit analysis (SCBA). In doing so, the standard methods of the European Commission (Better Regulation Guidelines) were followed.

TML coordinated the content of the project and collaborated on the substantive detailing of all policy measures. We were also responsible for calculating the environmental effects and made an important contribution to the economic modelling.
