Mobility study recreational cluster Moerelei

From 2009 to 2013
After collaborating with SumResearch and lar. D. Vandekerkhove, TML was chosen as laureate in the competition for a future vision for the recreational cluster Moerelei in Wilrijk (Antwerp).
The project unfolds on the site surrounding the existing children's farm, cycling and skating track, ski slope, and football pitches. The proposal on the one hand brings more unity to the currently fragmented recreation site and on the other hand seeks to connect with the surrounding green areas. The petting zoo will be revalued and expanded with a farm and eating area to increase the appeal of the recreation pool.
To this end, TML advised the city of Antwerp on traffic flow in the Moerelei area. Using a traffic model, we looked at the impact of a scenario in which the route of the Moerelei is changed to the extended Elektronikalaan. We compared this scenario with a baseline scenario in which we simulated the current situation.
In terms of traffic flow, detouring traffic does not experience any disruption after the modification. There is sufficient capacity to handle the traffic volumes. There is also no impact on traffic volumes in Groenstraat or at the Terbekehofdreef junction with the N177.
