Mobility and Accessibility Study Carrefour Car Park Herstal

11.13
From 2011 to 2012
TML investigated possible solutions to the mobility and accessibility problems of the Carrefour Herstal site by comparing different scenarios with the current scenario. The team applied a microscopic simulation model to analyse traffic flow, including traffic volumes and journey times, in detail and make objective, quantitative comparisons between scenarios.

The aim of this study was to use certain scenarios to look at possible solutions to the mobility problems around and accessibility of the Carrefour Herstal site. During peak times, one often finds long tailbacks around the site as well as long waiting times at the traffic lights of the car park exits. Each of the scenarios was considered in comparison with a predefined baseline scenario describing the current state. The effects were mainly considered in terms of traffic handling, in particular traffic volumes and journey times.

Based on the results, we made an objective and quantitatively supported comparison between the scenarios compared to the baseline scenario on the one hand and between the various scenarios themselves on the other. For this traffic engineering study, we used a microscopic simulation model that specifically allows mapping the detailed movements of vehicles.
