New Road Link "Meccano" Antwerp

10.25 / 11.12

TML conducted a traffic analysis and social cost-benefit analysis of the Meccano link, an alternative to the Oosterweel link. The study compared two projects and six variants.

This study carries out a traffic analysis and a social cost-benefit analysis (SCBA) of the Meccano link. This is an alternative connection to the Oosterweel link and its main features are that it is a more northern Scheldt crossing, has an additional western tangent, and proposes a route charge instead of a toll on the Oosterweel link together with a freight ban for the Kennedy tunnel.

The study was commissioned by Forum 2020. It compared two projects and six variants on them: the Oosterweel link as defined by the double decision and the Meccano link as defined by Forum 2020.
  • 9 September 2010: the report was presented by TML and Forum 2020 at a press conference at the Management School of Antwerp (presentation - summary final report).
  • 10 June 2011: some additional scenarios were calculated and explained by TML and Forum 2020 at a press conference (presentation - report).
