FLOMOVIA

23025
From 2023 to 2025

TML is developing an optimised version of the propagation model FLOMOVIA to calculate vehicle performance in Flanders and Brussels for the years 2020 to 2023. This includes improving algorithms and integrating new data sources such as on-board unit data and floating car data to provide accurate estimates of vehicle kilometres for both car and freight traffic.

The Department of Mobility and Public Works and the Flemish Environment Agency have a propagation model, FLOMOVIA, to calculate vehicle performance in Flanders and Brussels on both highways and the underlying road network. The aim of this project is to further optimise the model, validate the robustness of the results and calculate vehicle performance for the years 2020 to 2023.

TML will develop an optimised version of FLOMOVIA and use it to estimate the annualised vehicle kilometres on each road in Flanders and Brussels, for both car traffic and freight traffic.

TML will further optimise FLOMOVIA by making its algorithms available within Traffic Scout. We are also looking at new data sources such as on-board unit data and floating car data, broken down by mode of transport, to better scale up from daily volumes to annual volumes. The robustness of the new methodology will be tested.
