21097
From 2021 to 2022

Influenced by the European Green Deal and local regulations in Belgium, an opportunity report was prepared on the rapid transition from fossil to electric vehicles, focusing on the current situation of registrations, charging infrastructure, and policy plans of various governments and companies. TML analysed developments in electric transport for passenger cars, buses, and trucks and provided recommendations for Dutch business in this sector, including a SWOT analysis of opportunities and challenges.

Influenced by the European Green Deal and national, regional, and local initiatives and regulations in Belgium, the evolution from fossil-powered vehicles to electrically powered vehicles is undergoing rapid development. This is accompanied by the development of charging infrastructure in the public, semi-public, and private domain. The main objective of this project was to develop an opportunity report to get a good picture of the current state of affairs in Belgium and the developments and opportunities in this sector. The following issues were addressed:
  • The current situation and expected evolution regarding registrations of new electrically powered vehicles, fleet, and charging infrastructure (public, publicly accessible, and private).
  • The policies and plans of the various authorities (federal, regional, provincial, and municipal) and key companies regarding electric transport, charging infrastructure, and possibly related products and services; specifically, this implied a view of upcoming public procurement and investment plans of relevant private players.
  • In addition to developments regarding electrically powered passenger cars, developments regarding buses and trucks as well as related charging infrastructure.
  • An overview of the various parties regarding supply and demand.
  • The opportunities for Dutch business operating in this sector, as part of a SWOT diagram. Here, we also clearly portrayed the constraints in the business environment and offered suggestions on how entrepreneurs can best deal with them.
