From 2016 to 2025
Together with Dynniq (now Swarco) and Arcadis Belgium, TML built a new innovative management system for traffic lights in Antwerp. TML designed the traffic management strategy for new optimised and dynamic light schemes.
The project involved implementing a modern traffic light coordination centre (VLCC) that has already proved its worth in other cities. Such a control centre eliminates the limitations of the current system and will be a fully-fledged instrument for implementing the mobility policy of the various project partners. In terms of functionality, the system was designed to respond dynamically to traffic demand as well as be able to implement concrete policy objectives applicable to the axes and neighbourhoods within the study area. We designed a robust VLCC with a modern user interface, allowing operators to transparently and smoothly manage, control, and monitor traffic in the Antwerp conurbation.
We also developped a new traffic management strategy for the Antwerp region, focusing on policy goals for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, and car traffic. Our strategy was translated into a region-wide and intersection-level control strategy., with new optimised and dynamic light schemes.
