MAM calculation tool

From 2017 to 2019
To comply with international obligations, the regions of Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels draw up separate air emission inventories for the transport sector. TML developed the new vehicle kilometre calculation module, the MAM, which is adapted to COPERT5 and offers improved methodology and user-friendliness.
To meet its international obligations, Belgium has to draw up air emission inventories for the transport sector. Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels each make their own inventories to arrive at a consolidated national emissions inventory. To ensure consistency between these separate calculations for road traffic, common calculation tools were developed. These are the module for the fleet composition on the one hand and the module for vehicle kilometre calculation on the other. Together, these calculation tools provide the necessary data to work with the emission calculation software COPERT.
Version 5 of the emission calculation software COPERT was released at the end of 2016. In order to draw up emissions inventories based on COPERT5 (instead of COPERT4), the calculation tools used for this purpose had to be adapted. COPERT5, for instance, uses a modified division into vehicle categories.
The update of the first calculation tool (the vehicle fleet module) was delivered in 2018.
In this project, TML worked on the update of the vehicle-kilometre calculation module. A completely new module was developed: the MAM. In the MAM, the calculations are not only adapted to COPERT5, but the methodology is also further optimised and the user-friendliness of the tool improved.
